LET THE BOOK AWARDS SEASON BEGIN!!!
7 09 2017September 2017 Newsletter

LIFE-CHANGING BOOKS
Let the book awards season begin! Today we announce the Living Now Awards results, and next month it’s the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards. Our Living Now Awards contest is for “life-changing books,” the ones that truly can make a difference in the way we think and act — and having spent the past month reading them – I have a refreshingly new outlook on life. Maybe taking a week’s vacation during the judging helped, especially since we traveled west to observe the total eclipse – a life-changing event in itself – and then spent a few days in the amazing topography of the Black Hills, watching the buffalo roam and the wild mustangs run free.
How could you not be inspired by books like these award-winning titles? The Positivity Kit. The Bravest You. Healing Spiritual Wounds. Becoming a Citizen Activist. Of course, it’s one thing to read the book – putting it to work in your life is the hard part. Especially that last one: Becoming a Citizen Activist, with the subtitle Stories, Strategies & Advice for Changing Our World, informs and inspires readers to get involved in grassroots politics and fight for positive change in their communities. We should all be doing that, right?
This is why our book award programs exist: we bring the world’s best books to the attention of the readers, buyers, teachers and librarians who can use these great books to learn, to inspire, and make the world a better place. This quote from the winner of our special Living Now “Spirit Award,” When Thought Turns to Light: A Practical Guide to Spiritual Transformation, by Patrick Paul Garlinger, exemplifies the life-changing aspect of these awards:
“To change how you feel about others, acknowledge your interdependence on them. This is the lesson that our mothers teach us. As has been said many times, we are not single, isolated, autonomous beings. Rather, we are interconnected to each other in innumerable ways. When you pause to think about how the positive events and good fortune of your life have always come through connections with other people, you come to the magnificent realization that your life is the sum total of the contributions of others.”
Congratulations to all of our Living Now Awards Medalists!
