Quirk Books has announced its “Looking for Love” fiction contest and invites writers to submit unpublished novel-length manuscripts containing a love story. The prize is publication by Quirk Books and a $10,000 advance against royalties.
Since 2009, Quirk’s fiction program has introduced readers to YA fantasy (including the #1 New York Times best seller Miss Peregrine ‘s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs), and Edgar Award-winning mystery (The Last Policeman by Ben H. Winters ), and epic masterpieces of zombie literature (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith ).
“We’ve had a lot of success with our fantasy and horror titles,” says Quirk Books Publisher Jason Rekulak , “but we’re eager to explore new genres with our unique and off-beat sensibility.”
He add, “We don’t want copycats. We’re not looking for the next Twilight or the next Fifty Shades of Gray. Instead, we’re hoping to find a story that’s fresh, fun, and strikingly unconventional.”
The contest was introduced at Book Expo America on May 30, 2013, and authors will have until October 1, 2013 to submit their manuscripts. Complete contest details are posted at: http://quirkbooks.com/lovestories
